Welcome to the new and improved George Town Cruising Regatta website!
(Many thanks to our Volunteer Editor and Webmaster Deluxe, Donna Ealey, S/V Dutchess!)
The line up of fun begins at BLU after Registration for the Opening Party on Wednesday, February 28th. Then the Dinghy Poker Run gets everyone in the mood and introduces local fare to newcomers on Thursday. Friday is Coconut Challenge, which is a hoot all day long!
Saturday brings the Variety Show and Costume Contest, with theme Mama Mia. Sunday is our traditional softball game – the Yukon Burbins vs. the Exuma Allstars. If you have talent for sports, PLEASE come play on our team! We’ve been trying to win (legally) for years and only money bribes have helped in the past, so save us some money and bring your talent to the field, PLEASE!
Everyone continues to practice for “Official” Fun Volleyball Tournament on Monday followed by a most popular event, Beach Golf. The course is designed by the now World Famous Frank Davis and is going to be just as tough as last year.
Small Boat Races are scheduled for Wednesday but we need a chairperson for this event to happen. Same for Scavenger Hunt on Thursday.
For those RACING, see the forms needed by clicking HERE or with the link on this page. The Skipper’s Meeting(s) are outlined on the “Agenda” page of the Calendar under Events above. They are set for Thursday and Friday, with race days of Friday and Sunday. This is the reason for “Regatta” in our name and is open to both multi and mono hull boats and subject to handicapping. Volunteer Glenn Gustafson on S/V Windara is the contact.
Saturday is reserved for Regulation Volleyball and Monday is the highly popular Bocce Ball Tournament. Finally, there will be a Closing Ceremony where we all get together and express how much fun we’ve had. This is also the finale of the Grand Raffle Prizes, and as you can imagine, it’s probably turning into a party!
It goes without saying that every thing I have mentioned is dependent on cooperative weather. The MOST CURRENT information will be posted at the T-Shirt stand and at the Bulletin Board at Volleyball Beach. We will try to keep this website current as well. Listen to the Net in the mornings for more information.
Speaking of Shirts, Caps, Bags, and Burgees, they are available at the T-shirt stand at the top of the dock to Exuma Market and through most any contact you hear on the morning net. The sale of these items is the bulk of our charity donation back to the community. So, check the selections and get what you want early, while supplies last. There are also children’s sizes this year.
As with everything “Regatta” we are a group of volunteers organizing events for boaters by boaters. As the years have passed, the number and type of events have expanded as the volunteers have stepped forward. It will be no different this year and for years to come, so we invite you to participate, to enjoy yourselves, invite your friends, and volunteer where you see a need that you can fill.
Please and Again,
If you can help in any way, please speak up. With each new volunteer, the load gets lighter.
Thank you all,
Susan Schultz – S/V Other Goose – 2018 Commodore
